Our outcomes study was designed to collect information about former Higashi students. Through a comprehensive survey, we collected information about multiple areas of life to determine if an education under the methodology of Daily Life Therapy® was associated with positive results.
Areas of interest included living status, employment, daily living skills, exercise routines, communication skills, eating habits, medication use, community access, and overall happiness. These variables were selected because previous researchers linked them closely with quality.
Findings show the majority of our Alumni live in community-based settings, are employed, have some independent daily living skills, exercise daily, engage in recreation and leisure, and feel happy about their lives. Our most exciting finding is that the longer a student was enrolled at Higashi, the more likely he or she is to maintain employment after graduation. The results of the study were very positive, and are currently under review for publication. Stay tuned!
We had the pleasure of working very closely with Dr. Hsu-Min Chiang of Columbia University on this project.
